Lianzhou Underground River

Lianzhou, a city in the Northwest of Guangdong Province and on the upper reaches of small Beijiang River,  enjoys a long history of civilization and has attractive scenery. Its history can be traced backward to four thousand years ago when it was a county of Sui Dynasty, and a hub of transportation and various commodities. The long civilization history has left over plenty of places of wonders, and ancient architecture. In the history Lianzhou City was well-known for its eight scenery sites about which many ancient literary giants wrote a lot of marvelous poems. Now more scenery sites are newly developed, such as Huangchuan Three Gorges, Underground River, Tanling Lake, Grand Dongshan Hot Spring, and so on, all are so fascinating and attractive. The mysterious cave has been shaped by 200 million years of erosion of the bedrock and there are numerous beautiful stalactites to be seen. The natural karst cave is divided into three floors, with a total length of about 1,860 meters (6,102 feet). Tourists can first visit the middle floor and the upper floor. Walking along the winding stone pathway, travelers will be overwhelmed by the enchanting variety of stalactites visible. The stalactites themselves appear to portray a thousand scenes in the rays of the colorful lights, captivating tourists who linger there, forgetting their cares. Numerous other attractions draw your attention such as the smiling Buddha, ancient emplacement, spiny cactus, magnificent gate and the stunning natural flora and fauna of the region.

Lian-nan-pan-wang Festival here starts from Oct. 16 of lunar calendar and lasts for 3~9 days. People play gongs and long drums, carry Chinese Pangu Emperor and Empress, together with their ancestral wooden statues to run parade. In front of every household, delicious foods and wine are prepared for people to share as wish. After the parade, senior men will lead to compete for singing, making the festival filled of joys and laughter.
